Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s)

We would like to welcome you and your son/daughter to Scouting and to our Troop.  We meet every Friday during term times between 7.30pm and 9.00pm at the English Presbyterian Church in Llandudno Junction.

We charge a weekly subscription of £1.50, the first week being free.

Membership and Capitation Fees (Insurance Cover)

Capitation Fees are due annually, in January, and cover membership to the Scout Association and insurance for your son/daughter whilst they are with us.  Capitation costs around £25.00, but we do try to fundraise throughout the year to keep these down to £20.00 per person.

Uniform

After 4 weeks we ask that your son/daughter gets a uniform, so that they can be invested into Scouts.  Uniforms can be ordered online at www.scoutshops.comor from the Scout Shop in Llandudno.  The Scout Shop is located in HQ building of the Llandudno Scout Group, which is behind the Lifeboat Station in Llandudno.  There is an alley along side the Lifeboat Station, follow this to the Scout building.  The Scout Shop is run by volunteers and is open on a Monday evening.

Uniform consists of:-

A Dark green shirt, group neckerchief and woggle.  You may wear either your school trousers or buy Scout trousers which are navy blue.  A polo shirt is also available should you wish to purchase one, but this is not compulsory.  Girls may wear a skirt if they wish, but we find that trousers are best due to the nature of the activities we take part in.

Website/Information

We have a site in conjunction with the Cubs, you can find it at www.3rdllandudnojunctionscoutgroup.org.uk .  Scouts have their own pages detailing our forthcoming programme.  Any messages for parents will also be posted here.

Activities

During Troop nights Scouts will be offered a range of activities to take part in, these will be accompanied by a programme of visits, outings and weekend activities.  Every effort will be made to keep the costs of any additional activities to a minimum, as we want all out Scouts to experience as many of our activities as possible.  If at any time you have concerns or questions regarding the cost of an activity that your son/daughter wishes to take part in, please contact me.  As far as is possible, we will also try to lend Scouts any specialist clothing or equipment that may be required for activities.

Church Parade

We attend Church every second Sunday of the month, and would like to see as many Scouts on Parade as possible.  Scouts will be told on the Friday before to remind them.  We are a Church sponsored Group, and get the Hall free, so it is only fare that we do our best to support them.  All Scouts are encouraged to attend and of course families are also welcome to join the service.

Behaviour

To help make the Troop nights more enjoyable for all the Scouts have written their own Code of Conduct.

1.     Respect other people - Scouts and Leaders

2.    No talking when others are talking

3.    Listen to what others have to say

4.    Wear correct uniform when asked to do so

5.    Be sensible during troop meetings

6.    Try your hardest when given tasks to complete

7.    Be prepared to co-operate and work with other people

If Scouts fail to follow this Code of Conduct we operate a Red Card system.

1.     Should a Scout continually disregard the Code of Conduct they will receive a verbal warning.

2.    If a Scout still continues to disregard the Code of Conduct, they will be issued with a Yellow Card.  The Yellow Card will be sent home to the Scouts parents.  It will state why the Yellow Card has been issued and it will state that should another incident occur, the Scout will be issued with a Red Card.

3.    Should a Red Card be issued then the Scout will be barred from attending the next Troop Meeting and any activities occurring before the next meeting.  The Red Card will also be sent home to parents, explaining why it was issued.

4.    On returning to Scouts after a Red Card, the Scout must reaffirm their commitment to behave in accordance with the Code of Conduct, before they may continue.

5.    Should a second Red Card be issued to a Scout, then a discussion between the Scout Leader, the Group Scout Leader and the Scouts Parents must take place, before a Scout can be re-admitted to Scout Meetings/Activities.

Bullying

We will not tolerate any form of bullying in our Troop.  If any Scout is found to be verbally or physically bullying another Scout – either in or out of Scouts, then the Scout will be given a Red Card on the spot.  No warning will be given – and no excuse will be accepted for bullying of any sort.

If your son/daughter tells you that he/she is being bullied in or out of Scouts by another Scout, please come and talk to a Leader.

If you have any concerns about any aspect of Scouts please come and talk to a Leader.  We want your son/daughter’s time with us to be as enjoyable and productive as we can make it.

Please complete the following pages for our records.  All information will remain confidential and will only be used for the purposes of Scouting.

Again, welcome to the Troop.

Kirsty
